Angiogenesis as a predictor of recurrence in meningiomas

We read with great interest the recent paper by Guevara et al. [
1], who evaluated the association of angiogenesis, reflected by vascular density, with the recurrence of meningiomas after surgical resection. The authors found a significantly higher vessel density, assessed by counting the vessels stained by anti-factor VIII related antigen antibody, in recurrent meningiomas in comparison with non-recurrent cases; by contrast, they failed to find any significant associations between recurrence and the histological grade or proliferation index of the meningiomas [
1]. They concluded that angiogenesis is a predictor of recurrence in long-term follow up of patients with meningioma, irrespective of hormonal status and extent of surgical resection. …
