An unusual cause of back pain (2008: 11a)

A 22-year-old female patient suffered recurrent lower back pain for 2 years. Initially, the pain was intermittent and relieved by rest; later, it became continuous. Physical examination showed that mobility of the lumbar spine was limited. There was obvious tenderness and percussion pain over T12 and L1 spinous processes, and there was obvious tenderness over right paraspinal muscles. Spinal computed tomography (CT) study (Fig. 1) and magnetic resonance (MR) study (Figs. 2 and 3) were performed.
