Excerpt

The American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) continues to be the authority in providing regular updates for cancer staging. The first separate AJCC classification of primary carcinoma of the appendix independent of its inclusion in colon and rectal cancer classification was released in the TNM 7th edition published in 2010.1 In the 8th edition released in 2017, several modifications were made, including the introduction of Tis (low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasms [LAMNs]), the redefinition of T4 disease, the introduction of tumor deposit(s) as N1c, and modification of the M category with stratification of stage IV disseminated appendiceal mucinous neoplasms based on tumor differentiation/grade and histology.2
