We thank Dr. Wingren for his interest in our paper “Fatal cardiac air embolism after CT-guided percutaneous needle lung biopsy: medical complication or medical malpractice?” [1]. In his commentary, Dr. Wingren underlines that in a case where autopsy findings and clinical record review/information cannot determine the manner of death, this should be made transparent to the judicial system. In this regard, the author stated that none of the presented findings, clinical- or autopsy-related, seem to be able to assess if the event was due to an expected procedure complication or was actual medical malpractice. …
