On June 19-20, the Board of Directors of ASNC held a combined Industry Forum and Board Retreat outside Baltimore Maryland to discuss what we have accomplished in the past year and where we see ourselves going, both as a society and as a medical specialty. It was important to have our industry partners be a part of this to understand their perspectives and to identify areas where ASNC and industry partners can work together to move the field of nuclear cardiology forward. We were fortunate to have representatives from thirteen companies involved in nuclear cardiology as well as representatives of the Medical Imaging and Technology Alliance (MITA) and from the radiology benefits managers join us for open discussions of what “keeps us up at night” in nuclear cardiology. Reena Duseja, MD, Director, Division of Quality Measurement from the Center for Clinical Standards and Quality for CMS, reviewed the changes that we will be facing with MACRA and MIPS. In addition, Ira Goldman, Senior Director, Global Strategic Supply & Government Relations, Lantheus Medical Imaging, gave us a positive update on the global production and distribution of molybdenum-99, the parent of technetium-99m. Through these meetings, we identified areas for ASNC and our partners to work on in the near future to help maintain and expand the value of nuclear cardiac imaging.
