Several herpes viruses, including herpes simplex virus type 1 and 2 (HSV-1/2), varicella zoster virus (VZV), Epstein–Barr virus, and human herpesvirus-6 (HHV-6), have been suggested to be implicated in the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis (MS) (Gilden 2005).
