In a recent letter (Ehlers n.d.) Lars Ehlers responded to our article “Scientific second-order nudging or lobbying by interest groups: the battle over Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening” published in Medicine, Health Care and Philosophy in 2014 (Ploug et al.
2014). In our article we compared two papers published in the BMJ on the health economics of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening Programs (AAASP) in Denmark that reached diametrically opposite conclusions concerning the cost-effectiveness of such programs. We argued that given that such research influences political decision-making and broader deliberative processes in society, it is of vital importance that the research is not one-sided, but provides a ‘fuller picture’ in a transparent manner.
