When I was a medical student, more than 50 years ago, anatomy texts were based on a large written part associated with many extremely accurate drawings, which allowed all the elements of anatomical interest to be precisely identified. The representation of the images was predominantly planar, the topographic anatomy being presented separately, generally on an atlas, which identified the relationships between the organs in a vision that favored the frontal and longitudinal planes over the transverse ones. …
