It is an annual exercise I treasure, like recognizing an anniversary or celebrating a holiday with family and friends. Taking a moment to acknowledge our reviewers is something I will never grow tired of. I know people are working hard and I know that they are busy. I know this just in carrying out my own work and encountering people engaged in daily living. I also know this because it has become increasingly difficult to secure reviewers for the increasing number of articles submitted to the Maternal and Child Health Journal. You already know that during this past year we increased from 6 to 8 issues; you have also noticed that the size of the most recent issues has increased dramatically. We will increase from 8 to 9 issues in 2012 and the first few will be of comparable size to the last few of 2011. This is a direct reflection of our success in generating high quality submissions to this journal and to the work of our editorial board. More than anyone else though, it is our reviewers who enable these enhancements to our output and who ensure that scientific rigor and quality and relevance to our ever-evolving field are the watchwords of this journal. The fact that is harder to secure their services makes my expression of appreciation even more heartfelt. Those of you who take on this responsibility, honor it solemnly and enable your colleagues to be their best, are due an overwhelming thank you from all of us. …
