A Response to Predictors of Heart Disease Knowledge Among Older and Younger Asian Indian Adults

A few months ago, I read with interest, and caution, “Predictors of Heart Disease Knowledge Among Older and Younger Asian Indian Adults” by Fernandez, Everett, and Sundar, published in the Journal of Immigrant and Minority Health, 2016;18:1378–1385. In it, the authors reported they had conducted the study using a convenience sampling of data collected from visitors to a health promotion stall at the Australia India Friendship Fair held in Sydney, Australia, in 2012. The authors stratified the survey participants into two groups: younger adults (18–40 years old), and older adults (>40 years old) which resulted 73 and 71 participants, respectively. The authors summarized and compared demographics and personal risk factors for heart disease using descriptive statistics, and, according to them, logistic regression was used for studying the relationship between predictors (independent variables) and overall knowledge of Coronary heart disease (CHD, dependent variable). …
