During the last 5 years, the definition and understanding of the synucleinopathy Parkinson’s disease (PD) have been very much in flux, not the least owing to novel findings and new hypotheses in the field of neuropathology and contributions from other disciplines. Although it is generally accepted that the clinical phenotype in idiopathic Parkinson’s disease is primarily a motor one (parkinsonism), a consensus regarding the pathogenesis and pathological process(es) that underlie(s) the syndrome is only just beginning to emerge [
1]. All of the articles in this April issue of
Acta Neuropathologica reflect this
status nascendi in research with a focus on one or more aspects of the pathology (α-synuclein inclusions, Lewy neurites/bodies) or pathologies (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease-related lesions, cerebral amyloid angiopathy) in Lewy body disease. …
