Abstract
This is a report of a 51-year-old male who presented with a history of loin pain, difficulty with moving the back and fever. An isotope bone scan was consistent with infective discitis and blood culture grew Staphylococcus aureus. Diagnosis and treatment was early. On reviewing the literature, we found that diagnosis was averagely delayed. This could be avoided by a high index of suspicion and using readily available investigatory tools.
