This excellent paper is valuable reading as it provides “practical information about computer access systems in the MS/DOS and Macintosh environments which satisfy state and federal guidelines and meet the needs of persons with visual, orthopedic, learning, or hearing disabilities.” Helpful product references and a guide to national rehabilitation organizations are included. The paper briefly covers the increased legal protections granted the handicapped, including the “reasonable accommodation” standard of the new Americans with Disabilities Act. The discussion of appropriate considerations in selecting assistive technologies gives helpful guidelines to both novice and advanced users. The presentation is one of the better treatments of this timely subject.
