Abstract
Computer simulations based on the Monte Carlo method were carried out in order to test the validity of the technique of diffusion simulation in the extracellular space of brain tissue. The Monte Carlo simulation of extracellular diffusion within a binary image of a histological preparation satisfied experimental observations if the tissue was considered to be porous and isotropic. Therefore, this simulation technique may be helpful in studying diffusion in such tissues, especially in cases where experimental data are difficult to obtain.
