Summary
The publication reports a new method of galactose determination in blood with the help of the enzyme galactose-dehydrogenase. The determination is characterized by specificity, great sensitivity and a low labour expenditure. The exact oral galactose tolerance test as estimation of the liver function is now for the first time possible through the enzymatic determination of galactose. By patients with liver disease the lowest level, 90 minutes after oral galactose administration is 30.3 mg-% galactose in blood. For the detection of a liver disease the 90 minute galactose value, after oral administration is sufficient.
