Summary
The properties of plaques produced by ECHO 7, 8, 11, 17, and 18 prototype viruses are described. Rabbit antisera prepared against virus stocks obtained after 2 plaque purification steps (ECHO 7, 8, 11, 17) or 2 terminal dilution passages (ECHO 9, 10) and monkey serum prepared against ECHO 18 virus after 2 terminal dilution passages showed equal neutralization titers vs. original and purified virus of the same type, thus indicating the antigenic purity of the original prototype strains. ECHO reference monkey sera of the corresponding type also showed equal neutralization of the purified and original prototype strains.
