Abstract
The pancreas is a unique organ with complex anatomy and physiology. It is difficult to access because of its deep retroperitoneal location. The gland itself is very vascular and often very soft and friable. It has a very close relationship with major blood vessels and the common bile duct. Performing surgery on the pancreas can thus be very challenging. In the modern era, most pancreatic pathologies are referred to tertiary-level metropolitan hospitals due to these reasons.
