Abstract
Recurrence within the pelvis of ovarian cancer is a common mechanism of treatment failure [1]. This pattern of recurrence presents a poor prognosis and usually is a lethal clinical situation. In an attempt to curatively resect pelvic recurrence and to optimally treat advanced primary ovarian cancer, complete pelvic peritonectomy combined with intraperitoneal chemotherapy has been used. This cytoreductive approach to cancer treatment represents a new strategy for advanced pelvic malignancy. The complete pelvic peritonectomy is a surgical procedure in which all of the parietal and visceral peritoneal surfaces at risk for seeding of cancer are removed. The dissections included a stripping of the pelvic peritoneum, a low resection of the sigmoid colon, and an en bloc removal of all female genitalia.
