Summary
A group of ten children and adolescents with malignant bone tumours (eight osteosarcomas, two Ewing's tumours) were treated with chemotherapy and resection with allograft reconstruction. Intercalary grafts were used in three cases and terminal osteoarticular grafts at the knee in seven. The mean follow up was 22 months. Functional results were satisfactory, but there were some complications related to the graft. Although these are early results, we believe that the method is justified and is preferable to the use of an endoprosthesis, particularly in children.
Résumé
Un groupe de dix enfants et adolescents atteints de tumeurs osseuses malignes (huit ostéosarcomes, deux sarcomes d'Ewing) ont été traités par chimiothérapie et résection suivies d'une reconstruction par allogreffes. Des greffes intercalaires ont été utilisées dans trois cas et des greffes terminales ostéo-articulaires au niveau du genou dans sept cas. Le recul moyen est de 22 mois. Les résultats fonctionnels ont été satisfaisants, mais on a observé quelques complications en relation avec la greffe. Bien qu'il ne s'agisse là que de résultats précoces, nous pensons que cette méthode est justifiée et qu'elle est préférable à l'utilisation d'endoprothèses, surtout chez les enfants.
