ERG flicker photometric evaluation of spectral sensitivity in protanopes and protanomalous trichromats

Abstract

Flicker photometric electroretinography was used to measure the spectral sensitivity of protanopes and protanomalous trichromats under test conditions that favor the recording of activity of the middle and long wavelength cones, The intersubject variation was very small for both types of subject. The spectral sensitivity function for protanopes had average λmax of 530 nm. Although the presence of a second cone type could be detected in chromatic adaptation experiments, the spectral sensitivity functions for the protanomalous subjects were not discriminably different from those of the protanopes. These results have implications for current genetic models of anomalous trichromacy.
