Abstract

In 1991, an “International Documentation System for Colorectal Cancer (IDS for CRC)” was published by an international working party chaired by L.P. Fielding [32]. It includes a comprehensive overview on prognostic factors in colorectal carcinoma. Since then only a limited number of relevant papers have appeared, mainly confirming known factors or presenting preliminary data on possible new biological or molecular markers. Thus, this chapter is necessarily a condensed and updated version of the detailed description of prognostic factors by the IDS for CRC. Correspondingly, aside from key references only publications from the last 5 years are cited; for older literature see surveys [1, 22, 32].
