Abstract
The mammary carcinoma, LMC1, arose spontaneously in a breeding female of John’s strain Wistar rat. The kinetics and histology of the isogeneic transplanted tumour, now anaplastic have been described (Moore and Dixon, 1977a), and metastases develop when its growth is delayed by chemotherapy or irradiation (Moore and Dixon, 1977b, Dixon et al., 1979). Occult metastases are present in the superficial lymph nodes of 50% of rats when their transplanted tumour is excised at a mean diameter of 8–10 mm (Dixon and Speakman, 1979).
