Abstract
An experimental interest in the omentum in surgery arose in 1887. Senn [63] had the idea of overcoming the leakage of suture lines by free omental grafts. Since then many conditions have been reported in which omental grafts, plugs, patches, or sheets and the omentum on its vascular pedicle have been used. These clearly show its potential and limitations for surgical use.
