Preoperative thrombocytosis (PTC) has been observed as a prognostic factor in various carcinomas, including lung cancer, glioblastoma, renal cancer, and several gastrointestinal tumors. Increased platelet counts are typically seen in cancer patients, and they have been implicated as a prognostic marker in bladder cancer, where thrombocytosis has been linked to a bad prognosis.
1,2 However, the importance of PTC has not been demonstrated in upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) with certainty due to the disease’s rarity. To date, only a few studies have investigated the prognostic importance of thrombocytosis in UTUC after radical nephroureterectomy (RNU).
