Reflections on probability theory, philosophy of science, and good/bad/ugly gatekeeping: A rebuttal to Parr, Gallicchio, and Wood

Our meta-analysis titled “The relationship between T7-Fz alpha coherence and peak performance in self-paced sports: A meta-analytical review” was published online in this journal on May 1st, 2024. Within nine days of appearing online, we received notification of a reply by Parr et al. As discussed below, we conceptualize this fast and coordinated “alarm reaction” (see Selye 1973) as gatekeeping. Before discussing gatekeeping in science, we present our positionality and provide a rebuttal to their critique. We conclude with recommendations, based on philosophy of science, for the training of new scholars. …
