The positive impact of undergraduate research experiences on successful career trajectories is well recognized.1,2 When undergraduates engage in hands-on research experiences, particularly through intensive mentored research opportunities, the likelihood of pursuing graduate studies increases, as does their ability to take a more assertive role in their learning and career activities.3,4 These early career experiences are crucial in cultivating the next generation of scientists and faculty researchers. The papers featured in this special section of the Journal of Behavioral Health Services & Research (JBHS&R) showcase four studies designed to provide intensive research experiences to inspire the next generation of scientists. The following section highlights the University of South Florida’s (USF) Summer Research Institute at the Florida Mental Health Institute (SRI@FMHI) program that demonstrates this unique research experience for undergraduates nationwide. …
