Many retrospective series have shown that wedge resections are oncologically inferior to anatomic lung resections (including segmentectomy).
1‐3 This concept held true until publication of the post hoc analysis of the Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB) 140503 trial, which did not find any differences between wedges, segmentectomies, and lobectomies in terms of overall survival, disease-free survival, and locoregional recurrence rate in patients with peripheral non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) ≤2 cm and with a solid component.
