A Rare Cause of Acute Recurrent Pancreatitis in a Child

A 7-y-old girl presented with recurrent brief, dull, non-radiating, para-umbilical pain for 3 mo and was hospitalized with a diagnosis of acute pancreatitis. She had a similar episode of acute pancreatitis two-years ago. Ultrasound showed a well-defined thick-walled cystic lesion near pylorus. Computed tomography (CT) scan and magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) showed normal pancreas and an additional pancreatic tissue with a separate non-communicating pancreatic duct (PD) extending from pancreatic neck coursing anteriorly to terminate in a cyst near pylorus (Fig. 1) and was further extending anteriorly. The diagnosis of pancreatic duplication with gastric duplication cyst was made and communicated to the parents for excision of the cyst and heterotropic pancreas, however they refused surgery at this point and the child is currently under follow-up. …
