Glomus tumor is a rare neoplasm arising from a specialized vascular structure, an arterio-venous anastomosis called the glomus apparatus. Glomus apparatus is composed of epithelioid glomus cells which function is thought to be a regulator of circulation and blood pressure. Glomus tumor is characterized by a proliferation of glomus cells and frequently observed in the fingernails, but it is very rare in the oral cavity.
In this paper, a case of glomus tumor arising in the mandibular gingiva is reported with the review of the literature.
