The name of James Taylor (Fig. 1) may be familiar to neurologists as the principal editor of the Selected Writings of John Hughlings Jackson [1]. However, neurologists may be less familiar with the man and his work, although some biographical material was published by Eadie [2]. Taylor was a clinician of repute and contributed notable neurological observations, as well as being a friend not only of Jackson but also of his equally remarkable contemporary, Sir William Gowers.
