While many schools have focused on increasing student representation from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, efforts to address socioeconomic diversity have been more limited.1 A 2018 Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) report found that 75% of U.S. medical school matriculants came from the top two income quintiles while only 5% came from the last quintile, a trend which has remained unchanged over the past 30 years.1
