Resigning as editors in chief

After 12 exciting years, we are now stepping down as Editors in Chief of the European Journal of Applied Physiology. We believe that real numbers, rather than sweeping statements, are the best way to summarize these years. Thus, since we started on 1st July 2012 until 1st October 2024:-
13,250–submissions on which we made the initial assessment. About half of these were assigned to one of our excellent Handling Editors, who engaged at least two reviewers for each assigned manuscript.

3024–published articles, which gives an overall acceptance rate of 23%.

5,812,439–downloads of these articles, which gives an average of 1,922 downloads per article.

47,771–citations of these articles (according to Web of Science), which gives an average of 15.8 citations per article.
