ASO Author Reflections: Mainstream Genetic Testing Makes It Feasible for a Large Integrated System to Expand the Testing Eligibility in Breast Cancer

The guidelines for multigene panel germline testing for hereditary cancer in patient with early breast cancer have continued to change and expand eligibility recommendations. In 2019, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network recommended testing all patients diagnosed under < 45 years.1 In early 2024, Society of Surgical Oncology/American Society of Clincial Oncology joint guidelines recommended universal genetic testing for patients with breast cancer ≤ 65 years.2
