High cumulative opioid use is associated with greater risk of dementia before age 90 Opioid use is increasing in many parts of the world, including Europe. These drugs have previously been associated with short-term deterioration in cognition. Research now also shows a relationship between cumulative opioid use in people without cancer and the occurrence of dementia.
