Developed in the 1980s and 2000s respectively, laparoscopic and robotic colectomies are two minimally invasive surgical approaches that offer benefits in treatment of colon cancers, including lower morbidity and shorter hospital stays, compared to their laparotomy counterparts [16]. Robotic approaches were initially developed to address certain limitations of laparoscopic approaches, specifically improving three dimensional vision, dexterity, and stabilization of tremors, and in colorectal surgery proved to have lower conversion rates but longer operating time and higher costs [712]. …
