Prior to the advent of screening mammography (SM), breast cancers were detected based on clinical findings at a later stage and required more aggressive treatment, leading to higher mortality. Multiple studies have shown a reduction in breast cancer mortality in women who undergo SM,
1 probably owing to early detection in conjunction with more localized treatment. Screening programs began expanding across the country, and the Mammography Quality Standards Act passed in 1992 ensured high-quality mammography for early breast cancer detection.
