Innovation and technology in neurosurgery oncology

Brain and spine tumor neurosurgeons have led technological advancements to improve patient safety and outcomes. Innovation, including diagnostic breakthroughs, intra-operative technologies, artificial intelligence, and data registries, continues to drive progress in neurosurgical oncology. This special issue was designed to highlight the 40th anniversary of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) and Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) Section on Tumors (1984–2014) (Fig. 1) [1], the largest world-wide organization of neurosurgeons focusing on brain and spine tumor surgery.
