Over 20 years have passed since the introduction of cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), yet the financial implications of these procedures in the United States have been scarcely explored.
1,2 Procedure-specific Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes do not exist for CRS/HIPEC cases, which may be highly time-intensive due to the need for multiple organ resections, tedious cytoreduction, and perfusion.
