Hidradenitis suppurativa in black pediatric patients – a national analysis of the kids’ inpatient database

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic, inflammatory skin disease with highest standardized prevalence among Black (296/100,000) and biracial (218/100,000) vs. white (95/100,000) patients in the United States (US) [1]. In pediatric patients, prevalence is estimated at 28.1/100,000, which may be an underestimate due to under recognition. Within the pediatric population, the highest standardized prevalence is observed among Black (78.7/100,000) vs. White (21.8/100,000) patients [2, 3]. To our knowledge, there are no nationwide inpatient studies exploring HS in Black pediatric patients. …
